"My earliest memories of drawing as a child are from church. My mom used to give me a pen and paper whenever I'd get bored... so I'd kneel down, back to the pulpit, and use the pew as a drawing desk.

I grew up with GI-Joes and Transformers for heroes and spent hours every day immortalizing them on paper. When Nintendo came out, the shift to virtual heroes wasn't too difficult and recreating the characters I played, or the enemies I faced, became my new passion. A little bit later, I discovered women... and well, I don't draw a lot of Transformers anymore. :)

Fast forward a few years and I landed a job as a Broadcast Designer for a Television Station in Salt Lake City, Utah. I then job hopped for a few years, trying my hand at 3D Product Design and working at another TV Station in Indiana, until I finally decided that I just wanted to draw; the money, the title, and fitting into the ideal corporate model of what a successful human being should be, it just wasn't that important to me anymore. I got my first gig as an Illustrator at a now defunct T-Shirt Shop in Atlanta, Georgia called Fashion Victim.

Eventually, I decided to break off on my own and see if I could swing it as a freelancer. That was about 7 years ago. I've been mostly freelancing ever since.

I now live with bad ass illustrator wife and my menacing, yet lovable, son in Warsaw, Poland.

On Chris Corners...for sure.

He is kinda the most inspirational "space" for me. So if I was to make some piece special for him...it would be something really from deep of my heart.

How old are you and where are you based?

I am 31 years old and I have been based in Los Angeles for the past two years. Before that I lived and worked in London.

When did you get into Art and what made you start?

I've always been into art from an early age but only really got into abstraction and street art around my late teens after I’d seen what was possible from the likes of Futura 2000.

How would you describe your style?

It’s pretty difficult to describe really but I would go for abstract, sketchy, fluid, and messy. Always messy.

Tell us about Primer and Zuro Stilo.

Primer was an old collective formed with some artist friends of mine around the East London scene. We set up our own exhibitions, events, and participated as a crew in other people’s events. It was an exciting time for us as there was a real community spirit in the east end with lots of collectives trying to include as many other people as possible. Primer eventually disbanded when one of the members moved to Japan and shortly afterwards I moved stateside for 6 months.

Zure Stilo was a two man collective between myself and Teo Skaffa the infamous Dutch artist. We've been friends for many years and decided to collab on some things. It never really got very far but was fun whilst it lasted.

Describe a normal day in the life of Nils Jawa.

My normal day is pretty busy. I am a partner in the graphic design agency Binary & The Brain (www.binaryandthebrain.com) so that’s my 9-5. I built the company with fellow partner Simon Dovar back in 2002 and have been slogging it out in the creative field ever since. Once I’ve done my days designing I’ll get onto my art. Trying out new techniques, painting for a show, or making new stickers. Outside of that I do a fair bit of drinking, some smoking, a bit of reading, some working on my car, and a lot of hanging out with my dog. Pretty busy day all in all.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I actually try to avoid artistic inspiration. Looking at other peoples works effects my own and I’d prefer it to develop without that outside influence. I get inspiration from daydreams, architecture, TV shows, books, shapes, animals... pretty much everything in day to day life.

Name three things you love and three you hate.

I love my closest friends, my dog, and my car. I hate self entitled people, getting lethargy, and Joe Pollard.

You get to pick any two celebrities for a cage style KO fight. Which two?

This isn’t something I’d given much thought to until now. Of the top of my head I’d go for Steven Segal against Hulk Hogan. Just to see.

How old are you and where are you based?

“I’m currently based in lovely Leamington Spa and I hope I’m 28, sorry no it might be 27 it’s easy to get confused.”

How did you get into Graffiti and what made you start?

“I wouldn’t class myself as a graffiti artist, I’m just a run of the mill artist who gets asked to paint on walls from time to time so I do it. Being a graffiti artist is a totally different bag, I’ve got a lot of respect for those guys being able to do what they do, so quickly there a dedicated bunch who put the rest of us to shame!”

Where did you paint your first piece?

“Probably at my parents house about 3.5 years ago, for me it’s all about the drawing though, the simplicity of a pencil line on a page, anything beyond that is just for the viewers enjoyment really.”

How would you describe your style?

“I guess you would say abstract, but it’s not trying to be anything, I like to create groups of complex shapes, which hopefully people will be able to look at and see something new, it’s the excitement of creating something new which drives me most.”

If you weren’t an artist what else do you think you’d have been?

“Not sure, I think life is all about obsessions, it’s just a series of obsessions punctuated by love, death and for me art. If I didn’t have art it would no doubt be something else, but I feel I owe a debt to my art so I’m trying to stick at it for as long as possible.”

Name three things you love and three you hate.

“I Love, Pizza, swimming and there is this other person I’m quite fond of but don’t tell her.

Smoking, Pizza being hemmed in by ball shit jobs that don’t mean anything or have any worth.”

You’re a featured artist at the Upfest festival again this year. What can people expect this time?

“To be disappointed as me and the rest of the team that were supposed to be painting have had to pull out for various reasons, sorry to Steve and Kim the organisers who do an amazing job organizing a group of unruly artists.”

Which artists inspire you and who would you most like to work with given the opportunity?

“Will Barras without a doubt, his work has an amazing quality to it, it seems to flow effortlessly, I find each piece of his has a real depth to it, it hints and something greater, heaven would look like a Barras painting. I don’t think I would want to work with him though.”

How old are you and where are you based?

I have a 33 years old and live in Buenos Aires Argentina.

When did you get into Art and what made you start?

In 2002, I completed the Graphic Design studies at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina

Between 2003 and 2007, I worked as a designer and artist for Cartoon Network & Adult Swim.

Having the opportunity to apply the design and creativity

Five years ago I started with my own career as an artist and art director.

How would you describe your style?

I think my style is a mixture of several things the 1970s American Comix, the Asian classic fine art and the classic art Noveau paintings.
I think my art communicates a profound future visions, fears, nostalgia of the youth.

Always I looking to have a basic composition which is simple to see and be understood.

Your work has been showcased worldwide and has been in many publications, what's been your proudest moment to date?

So far that gives me more pride in my artistic career, it’s to have been invited as a leading figure in the Pixel Show in Porto Alegre Brazil. This is one of the most important festivals of contemporary Latin American art.

And now be in the exhibition called "Conquistadores" to be opened in May 2010 in Berlin Germany in a group of Latin American man most renowned urban artists.

Describe a normal day in the life of Pulpo.
Every morning I go to my study in which I make an artistic direction for video games. Working for clients such as Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Marvel.

But usually I work on different pieces at a time, sometimes I have five pictures at the same time and I finished as required.

I drawing usually late at night, is to me a time of day in which I can concentrate better.

Yes, I sleep little!

Where does your inspiration come from?

My inspiration comes from everything I see, Comic, television, books I read, movies, etc.

Basically comes from my cultural consumption. But it mainly comes from the books I read, that's what generates me more inspiration.

But by far the biggest inspiration are the things that happen to me as a person. That's what moves me to start and finish a piece.

Name three things you love and three you hate.

- I love to read a great book
- I love be at home drawing with the company of my girl
- I Love to have some beers with my friends

- I hate ignorance
- I hate the people who run art galleries conservative and do not see the urban art of genuine expression of this time
- I hate people who spend your day and life on facebook.

PimpArtworks announce Artist Line Up for new Limited Editions

PimpArtworks.com is a brand new online art website dedicated to Urban & Street Art, both traditional and digital types.

Four months after the site has gone live, PimpArtworks are proud to announce their Artist line up for their new Limited Edition, Signed and Numbered prints section, which will showcase exclusive works by Street Artists from around the world.

The new section which will be going live in the coming weeks, will be ran side by side next to the site’s current Open Submission art community, which in its own right has already undeniable introduced and exposed talents that otherwise would be unheard of through conventional Urban art world exhibiting methods.

How old are you and where are you based?

I’m 33 years old and my place of residence is Cordoba, Veracruz, Mexico.

When did you get into Art and what made you start?

I was always a very observant person on the design of objects that I had around me, always with a critical eye, when I decided that I would like to devote myself to the visual arts. In 2001 at university I started my graphic design career. Step by step I improved my skills and I graduated in 2006. I started working for advertising agencies and in 2007 decided to become independent and form my own design project called “Sgto.Mandril."

Tell us about your paper toy creations.

It's funny one day I was going through some of my notes, I found a notebook with some sketches, drawings, notes, simple illustrations and I decided to bring them to life. I started by vectorised them and then thought of what would happen if rather than just being two dimensions, they were actually three-dimensional objects. It was great to see the characters come to life and how the imagination soars and takes you to continue to create more complex characters, including their packaging. The paper is also the most economical and immediately you get what you are seeking out of them.

What's been your proudest moment in the art world to date?

A few years ago I attended the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City for an awards ceremony focused on national design. Although I did not win, it has been on of the most enriching experiences and observing some of the great old skool designers was the motivator for me to try to be someone special in the national graphic design scene.

Describe a normal day in the life of Sgto Mandril.

Well, usually the mornings are devoted to teaching, illustration classes, visual arts and in the evenings I spend all my time illustrating, sending contributions to events, competitions, exhibitions and design-related things that I invite certain workshops and course to etc..When I buy music, design, art or films I just observe, it helps me to look for things that inspire me.

Where does your inspiration come from?

I’m inspired by everyday things I see every day, movies, music, watching people, obviously this is the essence, and when I translate this into a role the deconstruction begins, the bizarre, amazing, sarcastic and crazy, is that’s when you give it your personal touch.”

Name three things you love and three you hate.

Love dedication, perseveration and creativity.Hate, prefabricated art, the lack of space given to talented artists which are limited by pretentious people lacking their own solid speech. I also hate the lack of openness to other artists manifestons.

How old are you and where are you based?

Hi, I'm 28 years old and I'm from Bandung, Indonesia.

When did you get into graffiti and what made you start?

Like most graffiti writers at that time, Hip-hop got me started. I used to look for graffiti from rap magazines.

Can you remember where you painted your first piece?

Yep, back in 97. I wrote the name of my rap group. I didn't have a tag name or a crew back then tho.

How would you describe your style?

Basically I only use straight lines and simple rectangular shapes and with those limits, I just develop them into anything I could imagine.

Describe the graffiti scene in Bandung , Indonesia at present.

I know some writers that have been doing graffiti before me. But graffiti got big around 2005 in Bandung. New writers and crews started showing up and it’s growing beautifully today. Most of us know each other and we tend to support each other and discuss the scene in a very friendly way.

Do you write with any Crews and if so which ones?

“I wouldn’t say we’re a crew. I’d rather call us a family. FAB Family. With 9 other guys, we just support each other in everything we do. Not just graffiti and street art.

What's the strangest place / object you've painted?

A stinking shoe. I was doing a live shoe custom show a couple years ago and a guy asked me to custom his shoe. Damn it stunk!

Any tips for beginners?

Just keep doing what you do for some time and eventually you’ll find yourself or your style.

How old are you and where are you based?

"I am 33 years old and live in Rio de Janeiro."

How did you get into Graffiti and what made you start?

I always love to draw and in my city graffiti has a development totally different then US or Europe, we had only tags that we call pixação. The first pieces with colours, characters and more elements cames around early 90's.I made tags also but always I tried to put more elements in my stuff. I can’t say a reason to started, just happened.”

Where did you paint your first piece?

In the north zone of my city, close where I lived.

How would you describe your style?

I love letters and typography, I cannot describe my style though I guess I'm just always trying to get more and more elements which refer to my culture and things that I live day by day. Always learning.

Describe the graffiti scene in Brazil at present?

The scene here is very rich, every day there are more writers with strong Brazilian identity and style, at the same time as that appears though there’s a lot of copying and other bad things but I think that’s normal in large urban centres, especially in the era we live in with the internet.

Do you write with any Crews and if so which ones?

"Nação Crew one of the pioneers in Rio, ISS is a sound system crew with DJ's, musicians me and 2 more graffiti artists and ACL-Academia Carioca de Letras.

Has your love for graffiti every got you in trouble with the law?

No I’ve never had trouble with the law, despite being legally prohibited graffiti here is very well accepted by society in general.I've painted in places and was in the crossfire of heavy weapons such as AK-47s and AR-15 but because of conflicts between drug traffickers and police and rival gangs but I was at the wrong time on the wrong day of bad luck but that was totally outside the law.

Tell us about the last expo you did?

I made a solo exhibition in Amsterdam in the Carhartt store, which was well filled at the opening and sold some pieces, it was great to show my work to people who normally have no contact, but that's in the past now and I'd rather worry about what I do in the future.

Which artists inspire you and who would you most like to work with given the opportunity?

When I started the old school artists were my main references. I would not cite a specific artist who I would like to work but artists who want to exchange knowledge and experiences, I like meeting the person first behind the work.

How old are the two of you, and where are you based?

SHOLTO: We are currently based in sunny Brixton and our combined age is 61 years old. If you split that number in half you wouldn't have either of our ages but you'd be fairly close to both. I'll leave it at that.

You’re originally from the Isle of Man, do you think you would be doing what you are doing if you both still lived there?

SHOLTO: I would imagine so. It would probably have been a bit more difficult to do much street work as it's such a small island and news of such things definitely travels fast so it would have been tricky to remain undercover for long. I reckon we would just have had to hope that the wrong people didn't get to hear about it... This article from the Isle of Man Today may give you a taste of what we'd have to expect: Link

HUGO: I would just like to say we were in Brixton at the time of this awful attack on a skate park.”

Ever have brotherly tiffs when it comes to painting?

SHOLTO: “Oh yeah, brotherly tiffs are exactly where it's at! There is usually plenty we disagree on although it hasn't yet come to blows. I suppose there is always time for an Oasis style scrap but it would have to be over something suitably unimportant like background colour or which font to use...”

What do you feel is your biggest achievement in the art world to date?

BOTH: Mmmm... this is a tricky one. Getting our mum, grandma and elder brother to actually realise we’re serious about becoming artists. It's obviously not the most stable of incomes and the process of convincing them took us a very long time. I think the piece we did on Chance Street was perhaps my favourite piece thus far as it was biggest piece to date, it was a lovely sunny day when we did it and we managed to get it completed on time and so it was looking good. Doing big pieces is just a whole load of fun...

When did you get into painting and what made you start?

SHOLTO: I think we probably got seriously into art about 5 or 6 years ago. We started doing our own t-shirt design and just moved on from there. Although neither of us have any proper art background (although i did do GCSE art!!) there has always been some artistic influence in our family as our dad was an architect and our mum did fashion design but it took a good long while for me to realise it was something we wanted to pursue. I think we started doing street work as we just realised that it's such a good canvas to work on and people will definitely see your work as it's right there in front of them. I don't feel i'm necessarily a vandal (although i would assume some people would definitely see it that way) i'm just trying to make the place a little more interesting and hopefully put a smile on your face.”

Name three things you love and three you hate.

SHOLTO: 3 things i love would have to be fresh buffalo mozzarella (a favourite of mine from one of the stalls at Borough Market), a good old fashioned party and a cold beer on a hot day. The list of things i hate is probably fairly extensive but i'll try to narrow it down to 3 things that i can come up with now - warm beer at any time of day, people who are rude and dogs in clothing.

HUGO: Lets get the crappy stuff out of the way first, what do i hate? I certainly hate mushrooms, i don't know what it is about them but they just taste like dirt. The game paper, scissors, rock is pretty god damn maddening as its the one game that i never seem to win against Sholto and probably my final pet hate has to be people who manage to walk into you or stop dead in front of you when your walking down a street. Aaaarggh! At times i feel like i'm a magnet that just draws these idiots in.The things i love are a little easier for instance i love any kind of fruit based jelly sweet, honestly sweets are like crack to me. I also love getting on the decks every now and then when i'm not painting. When i was at Uni i put a lot of time into trying to learn how to scratch but I didn't keep my practice up and i got no where for a while, i'm getting back into it now though. Lastly i'd have to say i love painting, drawing, stenciling anything art based. It puts a smile on my face everytime and i get to do it for my career.

Who’d win in an arm wrestle between the two of you?

SHOLTO: Theoretically it would definitely be me as i'm the one currently writing the answers...Surprisingly this has never been tested to my knowledge. If anyone is interested in offereing odds just let us know and we will happily film it and put it on youtube for your viewing pleasure. Over the top! *dramatic pause while the boys find a table and start trash talking each other whilst waiting for the emails to come rolling in...*

Which artists inspire you and who would you most like to work with given the opportunity?

SHOLTO: There are plenty of artists doing great work out there and i do so love the idea of a good collaboration. When done well it can enhance the work of both parties. I would guess it really depends on who you are working with. I love Zezao's abstract work and think it would be great to work with him. Banksy is something of an obvious one but he does have some great ideas.

HUGO: I like a lot of different art therefore lots of different artists but i have to say i have a bias towards comics and pop art. Glen Fabry, Stuart Semple, Ashley Wood, Roa, Dave Metaxas, Archibald Knox, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and TMNK to name a few.

Any advice for beginners?

SHOLTO: Any advice i could give has probably been given more succintly and more comprehensively elsewhere (i find that the internet is a wealth of information if you find the right places to look) but a few solid bits of advice are; There is always more to be learnt... Don't get caught...Don't get into it for the money!...Don't give up...Try everything until you find what works for you. That hardly covers everything but is a good enough place to start.

HUGO: If you see a pile make it bigger and if you're going to be doing street work, just go out and get it done instead of talking about it. We have a massive book of unused ideas that we've just been to lazy to accomplish. Just looking at the book i swear i've got to pull my finger out.

HUGO: Well i suppose i should mention all our blogs and the like for people to go and have a look at. We have two blogs, one for our art and another to keep our idle hands busy as we spend far to much time on the interweb - and if we didn't have a blog how on earth could we justify wasting our time like that! When did you get into Street Art and what made you start?

Got into street art/graffiti in the early 90's and started doing stencils and stickers in 2000, especially stickers, I print and stencil my own on vinyl sheets, crop them and slap them up.I've been a screenprinter for over 20 years and always had to print stickers for other people that end up on lampposts so I joined in.

If you weren’t an artist, what else do you think you might have ended up doing with your life?

Some horrible factory bullshit, although I used to be in a band when I was a kid so probably dead :)

What’s the strangest place / object you’ve painted?

Strangest place was the old cement factory in Shoreham, a massive disused building asking to be painted.

Has your love with art every got you in bother with the law?

No, not yet.

You painted a piece once in London which all the newspapers inaccurately reported as being a Banksy. How’d that make you feel?

That's the Daily Mail for you, they wanted it to be Banksy so much it was desperate.We rang the paper to say the story was inaccurate but they weren't interested, without the Banksy angle they have no story.Sad isn't it.

Name three things you love and three you hate.

You’ve left your art in many street locations around the world. Where’s your favourite destination to date?

How old are you and where are you based?

Old enough to know better! I'm originally from York but have been based in Bradford for the past 11 years.

When did you get into Graffiti originally and what made you start?

I started painting in 1987 after seeing the book Subway art. The book blew me away, I started sketching straight away. I met up with some local graffiti artists and began painting with them and have been addicted ever since.

Where did you paint your first piece?

My first piece was down this ally near my house. It said UA (cant think where I got that from!!) It lasted well tho it was still there until someone went over it a few years ago.

How would you describe your current style?

A blend of cubism and my previous work. I like layering shapes and colours.

If you weren’t an artist what else do you think you’d have been?

I dread to think! Painting has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I've never thought about doing anything else.

Name three things you love and three you hate.

Mrs Cageone, Gilbert and George (the fish that live in my studio) and ChickenWar, Bankers and Pineapple on pizzas.

What’s the strangest location / object you’ve painted on?

It's not that strange but I've been painting a lot dead spray cans lately. One of the was featured in the book 400ml.

How old are you and where are you based?

I'm 28 years old and live in a small town called Eger in the north-east of Hungary.

How did you get into Graffiti and what made you start?

I drew as soon as I first got a pencil in my hand.Like most of the children I love to draw some comic heroes, cartoon characters, etc. after that I tried to make my own character style.I think the first time I did letters was when we mashed some sloe and painted metalband logos onto the pavement at the front of our house.Did my first stuffs with marker and spraypaint in '94 at the age of 12.At that point I became infected with this virus that gives me the freest thing in my life.

Where did you paint your first piece?

Onto a wall of a block in my neighbourhood.

How would you describe your style?

I paint some different styles. Mainly 3D, characters and after many years I've began to paint ordinary letters again. My 3D forms are letters too, somewhere, other people may think I paint shells, insects or flowers,etc. But no, this is my evolution of letters. Heard a lot of funny explainations about my style.

Describe the graffiti scene in Hungary at present?

I think my country has some great writers and unfortunately a lots of posers too in my opinion. Graffiti's became a fashionable thing in the last years and there is a lot of guys who want to be world famous during it in just half a year. They have no style, just put their shit everywhere and then call each other 'King'.

Do you write with any Crews and if so which ones?

CFS (colored effects).

What’s the most bizarre place you’ve left your work?

I love to paint in abandoned areas and some of these places has scary atmosphere...but I didn't paint in any specially bizarre place as I remember....

Has your love for graffiti every got you in trouble with the law?

Not really, never arrested.

Which artists inspire you and who would you most like to work with given the opportunity?

Everything inspires me, there is a lot of talented artist in the world and if I can collaborateany of them, would be cool.

How would you describe your style?

I guess I’d consider my style to be a simplistic collection of flowing bold lines. It’s art with the emphasis on the construction and connection of line. I call it bold-line-flow.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve drawn on?

I guess the strangest thing I’ve drawn on would be some discarded prescription bottles found on the train tracks.

What are your preferred tools of the trade?

Mainly, I work with refillable markers & spray paint on what ever trash the street provides. A bit of vector based creation as well.

Tell us about the last exhibition you did?

Last gallery showing was the 4 Squares show at Monkey House in Los Angeles with Cache, Noek and Eyeone.

Name three things you love and three you hate.

Love:1. Being able to make a living as an artist.2. Fully-loaded and primed markers3. Farm stand produce. Hate:1. The news2. Persistent rain fall3. Price negotiation.

Which artists inspire you and who would you most like to work with given the opportunity?

Keith Haring often comes up as in inspiration to my art and myself. Chaz of The London Police creates the highest quality lines I’ve ever seen. The opportunity to collaborate with him would top my list. Think it would mesh for some interesting results.

Ame72, Originally from Manchester, then moved to Sheffield, then Auz, back to Manc, down to London, back to Manc, now currently resident in sunny Tel Aviv...who knows where next.

Where did the name Ame72 come from?

Derivative of my real name, Jamie Ame, plus the year I was born, it's an old skool thing.

Has your love for art ever got you in bother with the law?

Let's put it this way, I've been doing graff since 1985 and never been arrested.

What’s happening for you in 2010?

Aside from the ongoing exhibits and auctions, expect to see something special by the end of the year.

Any tips for beginners?

Practice, practice and more practice.

What are your views about the new PimpArtworks platform and concept (be as honest as you like)?

Pimpartworks offers something different from the norm, new concepts sometimes take a while to catch on but I'm sure it will be a success for both parties.

How old are you and where are you based?

I'm 38 and currently living in Melbourne Australia but intend tomove to Spain in June & possibly head back to London to see someold faces...might even stay if Blighty beckons....

How did you get into Graffiti and what made you start?

It was at school around 1983/4. Hip Hop had over taken Electro & I startedto see more breaking, graff & DJing on films & TV. A little book came out called'Subway Art' around 1984 & that simply changed my life. Met Don in school & sketchedsoppy 'break dance' style drawings & tried to emulate graffiti without really knowwhat it was all about.
I was more into the graff side of things with Hip Hop because I spent all of my timedrawing instead of learning stuff at school. Also, at school I was there with some of London'smore well known writers of the time - Gunja (Rel), Kool88 & Don, so you always had blackbooks to show & check out. Fuel & Fued ITC were also local so I saw a lotof their marks around the hood.

Where did you paint your first piece?

Probably some walls near my house or on wooden boards. I'd say thefirst proper big piece might have been 'Barnes Bridge' at Barnes Bridgetrain station. A legal commission done with my mate Don in 1986. We (Me DON &Gunja) also did a piece in Hammersmith hall of fame which I think was 1 of the firstfor me.

Do you, or did you, write with any Crews and if so which ones?

I was only ever in a small crew called UBG in 1987/8 with Don, Sno & Imase & a couple of othermates. Urban Gangsterz. What a joke ha! Ree2 said I can 'drop' MTA if I like...but I don't know if that was an invitation or not. I should ask him.

How would you describe your style?

I still draw influences from graffiti today when I create artwork. Either the actual imageor the mentality to approach a project like a writer does. I focus on digital,commercial artwork today mixing graffiti styles, cartoon characters,tattoo styles, custom typography & lettering, logos, & graphic art.I tend to call my self a 'graphic artist'. It might be classed as 'urban'?At present, it's all digital.

Describe the graffiti scene in Australia at present?

I'm in Melbourne & this place is covered in graffiti on the track sides.Every inch is literally covered for miles and miles. Graffiti isalive and well here but some styles out there that don't interest me at all. I don't see wicked tags & amazing handstyles as much. I think those dayshave gone. Do you, or did you, write with any Crews and if so which ones?

I'd say my commercial artwork being used on Japanese, mobile, pocket ashtray,wallet things. I was asked to design artwork for this unusual (and very Asian) smoking accessory product while I lived in Taipei. So I used a graffiti theme & slipped in a fewPac tags & pieces. I also did a kids English language teaching book& had a street scene in it where I slipped a Don & Pac tag in the illustration.The Client loved it!

Has your love for graffiti ever got you in trouble with the law?

Yes, several times. Community service sucks. In Taipei I was caught red handed, drunkdoing a throw up but after 15 mins they gave me my bag back and all my paint! Result.In 1989 I was busted with DON & PIC WRH by BTP for hitting the District Line for over 3 days...Other times for racking paint - badly.

Which artists inspire you and who would you most like to work with given the opportunity?

Too many to name but in graff - Seen, Bates, Can2, Daim, Don, Dare (RIP), Revok, Skore,Rough, Dash TFC, Swet, Ekto. I'd be happy to work with anyone who's cool & I couldlearn from.

How old are you and where are you based?

I'm 30 years old and I’m based in Basel and Berne / Switzerland.

How did you get into Graffiti and what made you start?

It was in the early 90ies as I actively realized the presence of graffiti. I was mainly interested in characters as I was particularly into comics. There was an upcoming discussion in society what made it even more interesting for me and above all, it was off-limits.”

Where did you paint your first piece?

My first one, as many others, was on my local school in Berne. I’m sorry for the janitor, he was a nice one and later on he provided us a wooden wall.

How would you describe your style?

In the course of time, I expanded into stencils and any means of street art, what gave me even more possibility to participate in my urban environment. My style is what I’m capable of expressing what’s on my mind, with these urban art-tools, always to leave a personal mark and something to discover for anyone!

Do you write with any Crews and if so which ones?

In the beginning there was the COA-crew (the circle of abandoneds). But I’m the only one left!

What’s the most bizarre place you’ve left your work?

In the early days we spotted a place along the tracks. As we started to paint, we realized it was a slaughterhouse, where they massacred pigs and other animals the whole night. It stayed a long time in my mind...”

Has your love for graffiti every got you in trouble with the law?

Sometimes we have to run, but always we’re faster!

Which artists inspire you and who would you most like to work with given the opportunity?

Inspiration particularly from the counter-culture movement by Kalle Lasn.to work with: Izolag (Petrolina/Rio, Brasil) / Swet (Copenhagen, DK).

In case you don’t know, Biteproof is an independent self-published mag/zine. The running theme for each issue is in its title and by setting its own brief Biteproof is able to bring you new and exclusive work. Biteproof is a way of bringing together a vast array of internationally recognised established and new artists from all over the world who require and enjoy more of a challenge than handing over any old piece of work. Issue 3 will now be A5 in size and over 70 pages long with artists work distributed over single pages and double page spreads so it's expected to present up to 50 artists. Demand for the previous issues has been high and this issue will now be limited to 350 copies. The issue will be presented in a pack containing an A3 poster, stickers and other goods.

The submission must be a piece illustrating the title however you wish, be that painted, hand drawn, digital, whatever you like. In full colour if you wish.The deadline for submissions is May 1st. PimpArtworks Urban Photographers help relaunch Carl Cox's Record Label

Carl Cox and Safehouse Management are proud to announce the rebirth of the legendary international Intec Records.

The original and groundbreaking techno label bowed out on a high in 2006, after eight years at the forefront of electronic music. Three years on and Intec is back, re-born for a new digital generation, with the same musical ethos of unearthing original, fresh and exciting techno music from around the world.

Intec Digital approached PimpArtworks and after discussions with our Urban Photographers who's work they were interested in, agreed to help supply imagery to be pushed out against the record label both on their website and merchandise.

“It’s a whole new fresh start,” says Carl. “The original Intec stood for something, very much of the time, but we’re bringing it back, we’re updating it, but with the same team of people, the same passion for new music and the same philosophy.”

Imagery will be rotated frequently on their website to keep things fresh and inline with new releases.

Who are you, what do you do and where are you from?

“Well, my name's Tom. I was born in England but I've lived in Australia for most of my life. After leaving high school in 1989, I pushed trolleys at the local supermarket to save money to go to art college. By the mid nineties I'd completed a degree in graphic design and I had the opportunity to launch into my shiny new career by designing the back of shopper dockets. A job that I quickly turned down because I didn't want to use my talents for something so mundane. Besides, I was into comic books and movies and I aspired to be a fantasy artist. So I decided to pursue those dreams while I made a living from working in retail. Over time, things have changed and with the introduction of computers and the advent of the internet I've been able to start promoting my artwork online. Today, I still work for a large department store selling computers and televisions but now I'm endeavouring to supplement my full-time income by selling limited edition prints and originals of my work. Just lately, I've been rediscovering my love for painting and I hope to have an exhibition sometime in the near future.”

How would you describe your style?

“My style varies quite a lot depending on my mood and inspiration. I get bored quite easily so I'm always keen to explore different techniques, both traditional and digital. About 18 months ago I become enamored with street art and pop surrealism and now I create artwork in a style that I like to call urban expressionism. It's still heavily influenced by comic books and popular culture and it usually involves strong, bold line work and emotive colours and textures. Sometimes, I simply use shapes and patterns to evoke a sense of rhythm and mystery within a composition rather than to convey any particular meaning and I'm also interested in exploring more stream-of-consciousness type stuff. I used to think that I had to get my art out there for the world to see. Now, I believe that creating art is something I need to do to keep me centred; to take my mind off other things. It's turned into a kind of therapy in the same way that someone might enjoy the challenge of doing crosswords.”

Tell us about Funky Karma.

“Funky Karma is my official online store. It's based on a concept that I came up with after finishing high school. I started making t-shirt designs that were inspired by the beach and surf culture that I'd grown up with on the Gold Coast. In 2004, I got round to creating a website and today it's become a portal for customers to buy t-shirts, greeting cards, prints and homewares that feature my artwork and designs. Each item is printed on demand which means I have no up front costs and I can just focus on the creative process. The downside is that I have limited control over the type of materials and the quality products that are used. But it does give me an insight into what sort of stuff people like and which way I want to go with my art if I intend to give up my day job.”

Describe a normal day in the life of Tom Deacon.

“My days and nights are very busy at the moment. You could say I'm a bit of a workaholic. I have a full-time job as an electrical sales consultant and I recently became a father so when I get home I look forward to spending some quality time with my partner and our five month old son. But once they're asleep, I'm on the computer or I have my pens and brushes out creating new artwork until I eventually run out of energy and hit the sack.”

Any tips for beginners?

“Just keep plugging away. Forget the naysayers. Go with your heart. If you love what you do it will show through in your work. Find a balance between artistic integrity and commercial gain. Be aware of what others are doing and try and create a niche market for yourself.”

Who are you, what do you do and where are you from?

“My name is Andrew, I live in the south eastern area of Melbourne, Australia. I am a photographer and digital artist.”

How long have you been into photography?

“I first picked up an SLR in high school, back in 1994. Have been taking happy snaps ever since. After traveling in 2008, I dove head first into photography and digital manipulation of photos, and haven't looked back since. I got my first DSLR, my Canon 50D in June 2009. A solid relationship has grown between us since.”

Do you take your camera everywhere you go? How far away from you is it as we speak?

“Ha, yes I do. I made a pact with myself to take it everywhere. Months ago, i was without it for one day, and kicked myself senseless when I couldn't shoot every second thing that went past me.
He's sitting on my desk next to me, staring up at me. There is a lot of love.”

You’ve been about a bit (travelling that is!). Where’s your favourite location?

“I live to travel, been lucky enough to visit all the continents except Antarctica, which I am aiming to get to before my death.
My favourite location is damn hard to pick, but I'd have to say Namibia, Africa. The country is unique, ever changing landscapes, the incredible Namib Desert, Fish River Canyon, Etosha National Park.. argh the list goes on. There's an ancient feel to the whole place, like nowhere else I have visited.”

Name 3 things you love and 3 you hate.

“Hate: ignorance, arrogance and cold / wet / miserable weather.
Love: aside from the obvious.. creating, music and staying up late for no reason.”

Any tips for beginners?

“Don't let anyone tell you that you can't take photos, or create art. If you have tried, keep going with it, artistic development comes to those who persevere. Creation is unique to everyone.
Don't be scared of Photoshop, it's only hard to begin with.”

Who are you, what do you do and where are you from?

"My name is Philip aka 'amatic', I'm a graphic designer/graffiti artist/illustrator. I live in Hasselt (Belgium) with my girlfriend and our dog."

How did you get into graffiti and what made you start painting?

"I always enjoyed drawing as a child, at the age of 15 me and my friends got into the whole skateboarding scene where I was introduced to graffiti. I was very atracted towards the medium, but I first practised my drawing skills and pick up my first spraycan at the age of 19 or so... Now I'm 29 and loving it more than ever."

How would you describe your style?

"Hmmm, don't really know...I like to do characters,...it's a combination between a 'brushstroke-painterstyle' and some tight 'graphic' elements. My characters have changed a lot during the years, I like to experiment with technique and styles...otherwise I get bored ;)"

Where’s the most interesting place you’ve painted?

"No place in particular, ... but I like abandonded buildings and factorys. I like dirty,eroded, rusty walls or machinery to paint on... it's too bad there arn't so much around these days."

Describe a normal day in the life of Amatic.

"....coffee/work/coffee/eat/paint/xbox360/sleep....copy paste copy paste etc."

Any tips for beginners?

"Yep, practise and practise again!"

Who are you, what do you do and where are you from?

“I’m a bit of a dork, who loves creating art. I live in Birmingham, Alabama, USA- where I graduated from university with a degree in art studio. Presently, I am only an artist part time, but I’m looking forward to the day when I can quit the day job and waste entire days making purposeless and beautiful things.”

How would you describe your style?

“I don’t really know how I would describe it. Honestly, I’ve been trying to label it for a long time but don’t see a lot of people doing the same type of digital art that I do. It’s abstract, and yet it incorporates a collage of photo manipulated images. Its part collage, photo manipulation, and abstraction combined with automatic drawing techniques. I layer and layer and then draw and draw until I feel it’s done. I just let it come out unfiltered and then try to compositionally balance it.”

Where do you get your inspiration from.

“I love Cy Twombly, Robert Rauschenberg and Joan Miro.”

Describe a normal day in the life of Damian Schwartz.

“Far too much daydreaming for a normal person. I think a lot- not necessarily about art, but about life and culture. The little meaningless things bother the hell out of me. My head is chock full of useless information. I often translate my thoughts into several languages as some sort of self torture. I am constantly searching for the chance to turn off my head and art is how I best do that. I need to create in order to relax. I also pray a lot. And then there is my love of beer, tea, or wine. I am essentially a mentally disturbed hobbit.”

Any tips for beginners?

“If you love art, keep working at it. I’ve spent years working without an audience, but I never stopped. Eventually, you will find people who appreciate what you do. The practice is what eventually differentiates your style from others.”

PimpArtworks Introduces "John Osgood"

Who are you, where are you from and what do you do?

“My name is John Osgood, (aka JOAB), I live in Seattle, Washington, and I am a full time artist.”

How would you describe your style?

“I'd say my style is sort of loose, chaotic at times, colourful, cubistic, cartoonish, and playful.”

Where do you get the inspiration for your character art from? Are they based on real life people?

“I get my inspiration from life. Sometimes it is real life people, but it is more about the process than just creating a specific story about life circumstances. When I start a painting I know there is a character in there, I just have to find it. I'm very processed oriented - I start my paintings off with strokes of colours to build lines and forms. Along with drips, aerosol fades, and stencilling, I start to build a composition. Out of this process, I begin to see a head, eyes, a position of a body. This is when I start really detailing out what I see. What is the body telling me? Is the body in a negative or positive position. The story idea pops into my head about what this character is feeling and what the painting is going to be about. The themes range from sad to humorous, and can be about the uncomfortable circumstances that we all face during our lives at one point or another.”

Tell us a little about Bherd Studios.

“Bherd Studios began at the end of 2006. When I was starting to date Michele, my future wife and co-owner of Bherd Studios, she asked me if I could learn how to do one thing what would it be. I told her I wanted to learn how to silk screen. Next day we had a simple silk screening kit. When we were trying to figure out a name for our new clothing line, we looked at some ideas that I had sketched out for a future skateboard company (Bherd). She liked the idea and the brand stuck. So we originally started with the idea of making custom t-shirts - and Bherd Studios was born. Shortly after that we started looking for an art studio for me to work out of and came across a retail space. The evolution was natural for us, we wanted to provide a place for me to paint, and also a gallery where we could feature other up and coming urban contemporary artists. It all came together and now we curate group shows monthly out of our gallery and I have a studio in back where I can paint and create.”

Describe a normal day in the life of John Osgood.

“I am up, out of bed at 7:30 a.m., and I help my wife get ready for work. After that I jump into emails, check the websites I keep track of (art websites that provide me with inspiration), and then draw for a bit. From there I clean myself up, skate to the shop, which is downhill about a block and half - pretty rough commute, and open up the shop. From there I clean a bit and then start working on a painting or a drawing, build frames, paint frames, connect with other artists, bring in artwork or ship it out. I'm usually back home by 6:30 p.m., and may work on a few more things and set myself up for the next day, watch the news, sleep, dream.”

Any tips for beginners?

“Organization, persistence, do your research, and most importantly - have a thick skin. For every rejection, send out two more submissions someplace else that fits your style of artwork. I am always trying to keep on top of organizing my work and keeping track of where it's at. It is a daunting task. The more organized that an artist is, the more prepared they will be when people come to them asking them to hang artwork, to buy artwork, and/or to commission artwork. Persistence: Artists need to go out there and find their market, ask the right questions, create finished artwork, and repeat. I feel persistence goes along with having thick skin. Don't fear constructive criticism, it's a way to grow as an artist, even when the criticism is hard to listen to, it's a good thing. It means that someone cares enough to try to make you a better artist.”

“Thank you for having me be a part of the PimpArtworks world. If there was anything to add I'd say that I feel very fortunate that I get to be an artist and get to show the world the things that I create. I am one lucky hombre.”

Who are you, what do you do and where are you from?

“I'm a fine artist/illustrator/graphic designer from Birmingham, AL (USA). Aside from my "day job", I create art in a variety of styles using both traditional and digital media. The works shown here are all part of one style I call "Digital Street Pop.”

How did you love for art begin?

“I've loved art for as long as I can remember and I started taking art classes at when I was 12. The older I get, the more different styles of art I like.”

How would you describe your style?

“I call this style "Digital Street Pop". There are two main concepts behind the style: 1.) Nothing in contemporary pop culture ever really goes away. It just accumulates. 2.) There is no hierarchy of information in contemporary pop culture. Everything is equally valuable/disposable. Therefore, everything is interchangeable. The randomness of the images I combine is part of the point. I create these using Adobe Photoshop (and occasionally Adobe Illustrator) because I can't create the textures using traditional media. Also, Photoshop has multiple undo.”

Who's your favourite cartoon character & why?

“I watch a lot of cartoons and I like a lot of cartoon characters, but my favorite is probably Cosmo from The Fairly Oddparents. I'm not sure why, maybe because he's so "off the wall". Also, I really like the style of that cartoon.”

Describe a normal day in the life of Psychopainter?

“I'm pretty much a hermit. I go to work (as a graphic designer/illustrator). I come home. Watch TV. I check a lot of messageboards, especially those that deal with art and urban vinyl (toys). I listen to lots of different kinds of music (but a lot of Industrial). Some days, I have so many ideas, I MUST get them all out (through painting or Photoshop). Other days, I CAN'T create, even if want to. I've learned to go with the flow.”

Any tips for beginners?

“Learn the basics before you start to break the rules. Learn all of the programs you can. Go see all of the art you can (in person or on the internet). Be open to a lot of influences. Realize that art doesn't exist in a vacuum...so, anything you create will be influenced by (and look somewhat like) something that has already been created."

PimpArtworks Introduces “Felix Pergande”

Who are you, what do you do and where are you from?

“My name is Felix Pergande, 26yo and living in Berlin, Germany. I'm working as a prepress operator in an offset printing company. Most of the work there is checking and imposing data for print. It sounds rather boring, but oddly it's not!”

How long have you been into photography for?

“I've been in photography now for two years now. At first, it was just for taking some shots and strolling around in the city, but after a while, I discovered some great pictures of abandoned places. I got more and more into the topic and found out, that my hometown is full of it, waiting for me! I ended up doing the same things I admired first and can't get enough of it!”

How do you go about finding venues to photograph?

“I found some places on my own by strolling around, but most of the time I get invited by friends to come along. Google Maps is also a good way to find some locations.”

You ever go to these places alone and in the dark?

“I will never go there alone. My own live is more worth than a good shot and it's really good to know that someone is near you when you are in need. I haven't tried the dark part yet ... maybe I will do that in the future.”

Give us a boring fact about your camera?

“The cam doesn't always do, what I want her to do ... that bitchy little thing!”

Any tips for beginners?

“You are the ones who take the pictures. The equipment doesn't matter as long as you have fun shooting. Keep your equipment with you, so you can't miss a shot.”

Who are you, where are you from, and what do you do?

Well, my name is Yoav Schumacher. I was born at 78 and I'm from Israel- Tel Aviv. I'm basically a Designer but I also do some Animation. I'm working as an Art director and do commercials for leading brands in Israel.

How would you describe your art style?

Above all it’s vector work. I like dealing and exploring shapes - creating strong emotions with minimal compositions. It’s very inspired from street-art but it is not in the street, so I guess its a mix between that and computer art warped in a cold digital glaze..

Any tips for beginners?

Learn when to let go.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Mostly from the dark streets of Tel Aviv, from the park at night and from music.
I'm also a great fan of street art & contemporary characters designers like "friends with you", Boris Hoppek, 123klan and many more.

What do you do in your spare time?

Since my work is creative with rather 'boring' subjects for serious businesses, my personal projects are my escape from the boring routine of commercial work. So in my spare time. I'm actually doing 'monsters in the park' produce some music, and living the big city.

PimpArtworks Introduces “SeanMaddenArt”

Where did you grow up and where do you currently live?

I grew up in an absolutely insane neighborhood in Buffalo, New York during the 60’s and 70’s. There was lots of crime, violence, and drugs. Currently, I live in a 3000 square foot house with snapping turtles and deer and a pond. A stream runs through the property with salmon from Lake Ontario in it. Rural splendor everywhere. I’m on a different planet completely from where I grew up. I escaped.

What’s Your Artistic Background?

I’ve been doing this since I was 4. My mother was an artist, and had me painting at a small easel next to her in our apartment. She didn’t try to control it— she just let it happen. My first paying gig as an artist was when I was 15. I did murals and signs for a restaurant that was owned by a mentally ill, criminally insane (I’m not exaggerating), drug-crazed older brother of a friend of mine.

In my 20’s I had to quit painting and drawing while I was working my through college. After I got my masters degree, I began to paint and draw again. I studied with some local artists in my spare time. When I was 30, I was published for the first time. I did a cover for a psychiatric journal.

Would you say you’re a free artist, without constraints of trying to appease someone or anyone?

I am these days, yes. But, there have been times when I tried to soften things up to conform and make some better money at it— and it just doesn’t work. Like, I did a series of jazz improvisation paintings years ago– largely because of the trio I played in at the time. They were nice paintings, and they all sold well, but they looked like they came from someone else. I hate that. You can’t regulate your soul.

How’s your children’s book series going?

The children’s books were not a conformist sell-out for me. I genuinely loved doing them, and would do it again. It was great! I loved doing readings at schools and libraries. I’m really great with auditoriums full of kids and parents– you have to be to sell in that market.

However, the children’s book scene is not a friendly place. I love the kids and the parents, but the librarians and the bookstore clerks are very tough to deal with. I get tired of fighting my way through snobbery at times. I have very little patience for it. I don’t wag my tail for anyone, especially some spoiled brat librarian.

Who are you, where you from and what do you do?

Well, my name is Ben and i am a street/graffiti artist and illustrator. I am originally from London but have been living in Brazil now for the past year.

What’s a normal day like in the life of Biltongben?

I am always drawing and sketching throughout the day whenever I have free time, it keeps me motivated. I always carry a blackbook with me so when I get inspiration for an idea, I don't forget it.

How do you describe your style?

My style is very graffiti influenced. I don't like to take to much time on a piece which is why I draw and colour very quickly and that's how I achieve my style with a lot of emotion and freedom put into it. I would describe it as aggressive, colourful and zany!

Any tips for beginners?

Whenever you have free time just keep doodling, sketching, practicing all the time all the time and you will soon begin to have your own style that you like. Always try to carry a sketchbook with you wherever you go and always keep your illustrations, even the ones you don't like.

Where do you get the inspiration for your character art from?

Very graffiti and urban influenced, I remember I was in school one day many years ago and a kid bought in a copy of spraycan art and subway art. I was completely fascinated by all the colourful graffiti and characters in those books and thinking "I wanna do that!" Music is also a good inspiration for me.

Which other artists to you admire?

I really admire artists like Vaughn and Mark Bode, Mode 2 and Matt Sewell. They are very talented artists. They have been my inspiration for many years.

A week ago today and PimpArtworks was finally born. A brand new platform that does away with all the normal bullshit and red tape involved with exhibiting urban artworks. PimpArtworks are doing it by simply keeping it real!

So how did PimpArtworks come about?

Call it a rebellion against all of those big corporate businesses repeatability pushing the same stock images in peoples faces if you want; but when the anonymous artwork sprayed late at night on the shutters of a well know Swedish furniture store has more wit, character and appeal than the stuff they actually sell inside, well… someone had to do something! And PimpArtworks did just that.

Everyone has an opinion about art.

It’s just like music.. everyone will always name at least one type. If they can’t or won’t, then they’re the ones your parents warned you about when you were a kid and seriously steer well clear of them, they’re soulless individuals!

But then, what happens if YOU actually like the alternative arts?

Graffiti, urban artwork, stencils, you know the sort.. the style which the bosses of those big corporate company’s ran by the suits, stick their noses up at because no one asked for their permission first?

Well if this is you... then a VERY BIG WELCOME to PimpArtworks!
